Post #235 - No War in Our Name
Washington, DC - With rising concerns of war with Iran, twenty-six leading Iranian-American, Jewish-American, Muslim-American, arms control, human rights, pro-democracy, pro-peace, and faith organizations called for any legislation advanced by Congress to support a diplomatic resolution to the standoff and make absolutely clear there is no authorization for military force against Iran.
In a letter (appended below) led by the National Iranian American Council to Congressional leadership, the organizations call for Congress to advance House Resolution 4173 (The Prevent Iran from Acquiring Nuclear Weapons and Stop War through Diplomacy Act), and to oppose S. R. 380 and H.R. 568.
The purpose of the legislation, introduced by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) was to:
1) Lift the "no contact policy" that bars US diplomats from communicating with their Iranian counterparts.
2) Make clear there is no authorization for war and no taxpayer money may be used for war against Iran.
3) Support sustained, bilateral talks with Iran by appointing a special diplomatic envoy.
